Pronunciation Survey 2020

Description

  • This questionnaire concerns the English words for which pronunciation is debatable, or for which usage is divided. You may also be asked to read some short sentences.
  • There will be 358 words and sentences, divided into three sections.
  • It will take 10-15 minutes to finish each section.
  • At the end of each section, you will be asked if you would like to go on to the next section.
  • Your recordings will be uploaded on our website Sounds of Englishes within a month.

Recording Instruction (words)

  • You will be asked to read the words as you usually pronounce them.
  • Please do NOT touch the keyboard or mouse until you have finished reading each word completely.
  • Please read the words with a falling intonation, as if they are at the end of the affirmative sentences.
    Good: Silence before and after the word, falling intonation.
    Bad: Rising intonation.
    Bad: Noise before the word.
    Bad: Noise after the word.
